I had the pleasure of attending the International Housewares Show at McCormick Place this week. I did the design work for one of the booths at the show and it was so much fun to see it finished!
If you have never been to a trade show before, imagine a shopping mall so large that you can barely see from one end to the other. But instead of stores, it’s booths and vendors. And they all have a thousand different types of shiny kitchen and home goods. From plates to sponges, cake decorating tools, and every possible household gadget you could ever think of, this is the place to find all the awesome things you didn’t even know you needed. Companies from around the world come to show off their latest offerings, while designers like me go to pick up on new trends in color and trade show booth design. I didn’t even make it a quarter of the way around before I ran out of business cards. And I saw so many great new toys that I think I already have my Christmas list finished.
It’s a lot of fun checking out the innovations in product design. This year, my favorites were bamboo plates and resealable lids for mason jars.
Pantone also has a huge booth at this show and it’s always a lot of fun seeing their color trend boards.
It’s also great inspiration to see all the cool new products in housewares. I’m drooling over all the new KitchenAid colors.
In short, it was a great show! Now can someone get me that shiny red mixer?…
